1. This writ petition assails order dated 23 March 2026 passed by the Central Administrative Tribunal1 in OA 4398/2014, whereby the Tribunal has set aside the punishment of removal from service imposed on the respondent for having remained continuously absent from duty from 2009 onwards.  The impugned order notes the fact that, even till the date of filing of the OA, the respondent had not joined service. 

2. We feel that the Tribunal ought to have examined the matter in somewhat greater depth, as the findings of the Tribunal do not really address the grounds on which the respondent was imposed the aforesaid punishment and the justification/non-justification therefor. 

3. Accordingly, with consent of learned Counsel for the parties, the impugned order is quashed and set aside.  The OA is remanded for consideration de novo by the Tribunal.  Needless to say, the Tribunal would not be influenced, in any way, by the order under challenge before us.  The writ petition is allowed to the aforesaid extent.
